चीर फार :- Life goes on

What happened to the players after the dramatic event of 26 March 2007?
We have monitored how some players are coping with the bitter disappointment.

Long CV (Vikram) has completely changed his lifestyle. He has vowed celibacy and he now aspires to be a monk. Maybe he will be praying for the success of Chir Phaar.

Vikram BABA

Baco has decided to obtain his Phd within the next few years, and from what we have observed he is studying seriously, even when others are busy enjoying themselves. What an example for others to follow!

Joe has started a new duty as Umbrella-Holder, and from the feedback obtained from Chir Phaar members, he is quite good at it. So if you need someone to hold your umbrella, you know whom to call!

Turbo (Preetesh) has joined the local mafia, and as a part-time job, he sells CDs near the UOM cafetaria. If you need a good CD, you know where to get it!

चीर फार :- The Revival

For the 2006-2007 season, the players were determined to go as far as they could. They were dreaming of Reunion Island. However, Rampa, Zizou and Surya had distanced themselves from the team. During that period, Chir Phaar made its first signings. Kunal,Mervin and Kushal had joined the team, soon followed by Rajiv after impressive displays during friendly matches. After unsuccessfully trying Joe and Raja as goalkeeper, the team made its last signing, Baco. The new team was confident of achieving great things.

The Chir Phaar Team of 2006-2007

चीर फार :- The Creation

Chir Phaar F.C. was created in the year 2005 by the students of CSE Group A (2004 intake). The initial team was composed of:
Ramsingh (Raja), initially as Goalkeeper, then as Manager/Linesman
Grand Frere (Goshal), initially as Central Defender, then as Goalkeeper
Rafik (Ravi), as Central Defender
Kunaal, initially as Midfielder, then as Central Defender
Joe (Kamal), as Left Wing Back
Rampa (Ved), as Midfielder
JC (Rajiv), as Right Wing Back
Turbo (Preetesh), as Right Winger or Striker
Nitin, as Left Winger or Striker
Long CV (Vikram), as Midfielder
Vijendra, as Right Wing Back
Doui (Sachin), as Midfielder
Avinash, as Striker
Zizou (Rajiv Sobhee), as Midfielder
Surya, as Right Wing Back

The Chir Phaar Team of 2005-2006

The team played well in its first official match, even though playing against weaker oppositions. The final score was 6-0, and astonishingly, none of the first choice strikers scored in this match. Maybe because it was Valentine's Day! Other teams had started noticing Chir Phaar, and that name itself had started instilling fear in opponents.

The next match was a hard fought match, and winning that match was even more satisfying because two key players were missing, Rafik and Rampa. The opposition team consisted of well built men compared to small boys like us. We were not deterred by their physical strength, and played as if we were in a final. Our task was made more difficult by the sending off of Nitin for constant abuse of the referee. Avinash scored what proved to be the only goal of the match, and Chir Phaar held on for a famous victory against the Steves.

Next on the list was Scorpions, and confidence was high in the Chir Phaar camp. The players were dreaming of reaching the final of the pool. Everything was going as planned, and the team was leading by a goal, till Goshal made a goalkeeping mistake, and the equaliser managed to sneak in. To add insult to injury, Nitin was again red carded, this time for blatantly controlling the ball with his hand. We managed to hold on, but during the penalty shoot-out session, luck was not in our favour, and we were eliminated.

The end of a generation, at the dawn of a new era.

26 March 2007 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, a golden generation had come to its end, without even managing to get proper recognition. Chir Phaar F.C., with its original members, was dumped out of the University of Mauritius tournament by Wars.

In the space of two days, Chir Phaar had lost everything. On Saturday, the team was eliminated from the 7-a side tournament of the University despite having not lost a single match, and boasting the best defense, the best attack and arguably the best team. Nobody had imagined that destiny would be so cruel to Chir Phaar, and the dream of the players to go to Reunion Island would come to such an abrupt end.
